The curtain is about to close on this workshop...
You Observed with a Critical Eye
You Pointed Out Particulars
You were Specific
and now all you need to do is write the final copy of your critique.
All the information you need to include in your
critique should already be written on your worksheet so writing your
good copy should be a piece of cake!
First, Use the information at the top of your worksheet to give a general overview of the dance including the style of dance, the choreographer and the location or context - such as at the school Christmas concert, at Place des Arts, during a benefit concert, etc...
Next, state your overall opinion and follow it up with your well explained specifics.
Don't forget to use descriptive and dance-specific language!
Finally, wrap up your critique with a conclusion that restates your opinion.
As you write your critique keep these last thoughts in mind:
- Everything you say should relate to the experience of watching the dance performance,
so sentences like "I liked the song' or "nice moves" are not examples of a quality critique.

- The goal of a critique is to pass along information to the performers and or choreographers so they can improve, so although
It is perfectly valid to say you did not enjoy the performance or to point out areas for improvement, it is important to always state
things in the form of constructive criticism rather than in ways that might be hurtful to performers or choreographers who might read it.
